An engine is a combination of cards that work well together, but contains too few cards to make a full Deck. If an engine focuses on raising consistency, it is called a Draw Engine.

Examples

Tour Guide Engine
The Tour Guide Engine uses "Tour Guide From the Underworld" to Summon Level 3 Fiends-Type monsters to quickly Xyz Summon Rank 3 monsters such as "Leviair the Sea Dragon", "Wind-Up Zenmaines" and "Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction". It originally consisted of 3 copies of "Tour Guide" and 1 copy of "Sangan". After "Tour Guide" was Semi-Limited due to the engine's popularity, it began using another Level 3 Fiend-Type monsters, most often "Night Assailant",but sometimes Dark Mimic LV3" or "Tour Bus From the Underworld" if the deck requires draw or recycling, respectively. WATER Decks can also use "Cloudian - Poison Cloud".

Plant Engine
The Plant Engine consists of "Glow-Up Bulb", "Spore", "Lonefire Blossom", "Dandylion", "Debris Dragon" and "One for One" and allows for fast Synchro Summoning. It was rendered unplayable in March 2012 with the Forbidding of "Spore" and "Glow-up Bulb", but by September 2012 it was again somewhat playable with the return of "Spore" and Semi-Limiting of "Debris Dragon".

Diva Engine
The Diva Engine is similar to the Tour Guide engine. You summon "Deep Sea Diva" to Special Summon another Sea Serpent-Type monster, usually another copy to quickly Xyz Summon Rank 2 monsters like "Gachi Gachi Gantetsu" and "Daigusto Phoenix". With the Diva Engine, you can also have a choice to summon a Synchro Monster by summoning a Non-tuner Level 3 Sea Serpent monster and summon Level 5 Synchro Monsters like "Ally of Justice Catastor" and "T.G. Hyper Librarian".

Frog Engine
The Frog Engine allows for fast tribute fodder and is often combined with "Monarch" monsters to make a Frognarchs deck. It consists of "Swap Frog", "Treeborn Frog", "Dupe Frog" and "Ronintoadin". "Poison Draw Frog" and "Sea Lancer" can also be added to make a lancer Frog deck.

The Machina Engine
The "Machina" engine consists of "Machina Fortress" and "Machina Gearframe". It gives more power to Machine decks, Including "Gimmick Puppets", "Gadgets", "Geargia" and "Karakuri". "Gear Gigant X" and "Machina Peacekeeper" can be used to search "Gearframe", but the latter is rather not used due to its slow speed. "Machina Cannon" can be used as a "Monster Reborn" for "Fortress".
